Doctor of Philosophy in Mass Communication

PhD is a “taught doctorate” with four semesters of coursework, followed by a Comprehensive research proposal defense in a departmental seminar. This is followed by thesis writing and a viva voce examination which shall take place only after the Senate Higher Degree Committee and Senate have been satisfied that the thesis submitted by the candidate is considered by the examiners to be of an acceptable standard.

Entry Requirements

i)  The candidate must meet the common regulations for admission into the PhD
programmes offered by SAUT.
ii)  Holders of MA in Communication or cognate fields such as Sociology or Political Science
from recognized institutions of higher learning with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
iii)  Some previous field research experience as a research assistant or in the MA thesis.
iv)  Submission of an essay of twenty to thirty pages on the proposed area of the thesis
